Catford going to the dogs
Catford’s greyhound stadium closed in 2003 but briefly there was a rival dog track on Perry Fields that, according to Running Past blog, was also home to Rugby Union, Cricket and, ahem, midget car racing. Catford’s better known dog track opening in 1932 and was, at times, one of the best in London drawing people in by bus, the conveniently situated train station as well as locals. There were controversial and dramatic times off the track too such as in 1946 when an express derailed and five coaches fell down the 20 foot embankment landing in the stadium car park.
